Learn the S-ICD Difference

After being diagnosed with increased risk for Sudden Cardiac Arrest you will need to move onto choosing a treatment option. During your visits with your doctor, you may have talked about the benefits of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator or ICD device.

An S-ICD (Subcutaneous Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) is an evolution in ICD therapy. It’s implanted just under the skin with no wires touching the heart. Thus, it eliminates potentially serious short- and long-term risks associated with placing electrical wires inside the heart or blood vessels.

S-ICD vs other Devices

An S-ICD is different from either a pacemaker or a traditional ICD device. Your S-ICD is placed just under the skin and delivers therapy without the need for electrical wires implanted in the heart.

How the S-ICD Works

How the S-ICD Works

Your S-ICD monitors your heart rhythm 24 hours a day. It’s designed to deliver lifesaving defibrillation therapy (an electric shock to the heart) when it senses that your heart rate is dangerously fast.
