How to Prepare for Your Procedure

Preparing for your S-ICD implant is much like preparing for other types of procedures.

Your healthcare provider will give you specific instructions about what to do to prepare. Follow these instructions carefully. You will also be given a course of antibiotics to take before and after the procedure.

Find out from your doctor…

  • Whether you should continue or stop taking certain medications
  • If you need to avoid eating or drinking in the hours before procedure
  • What to expect when you check into the hospital

It’s important to tell your doctor if you’re unable to take aspirin or you have a history of bleeding problems. Your doctor also needs to know if you are taking any other medications, have drug allergies, or are allergic to any metals or plastics. For a list of questions to ask your doctor before your procedure, click here.
